How is it that the skin on my face is both oily and dry so needs moisturising?

Shouldn't the two balance each other out?How is it that the skin on my face is both oily and dry so needs moisturising?
Its probably dehydration. Oily skin can become dehydrated from lack of moisture not oil. Dry skin is usually a lack of oil. What you need to do is find an oil free moisturizer and drink lots of water. On the other hand if your skin is oily is some places like the T-zone (forehead nose and chin) and dry in others like your cheeks then you could have combination skin as said in another answer. If thats the case then you could do one of two things. You could treat both areas with different products or you could buy products meant for combination skin. Either way I would still stick to an oil free moisturizer. How is it that the skin on my face is both oily and dry so needs moisturising?
As posted before, it's called combination skin. Your glands always compensate for the dryness in your skin by producing excess oil. Which is why skin should always be moisturized because it needs hydration (water hydration). Your skin's production of excess oil (most likely the t-zone), could be addressed by using toner and a mattifying moisturizer. Some people recommend using two different types of moisturizers for the different problem areas.
You need to use a good face wash, toner and then a moisturiser for combination skin. Wash your face at night and use a night cream. You will see the difference in two weeks, The initial financial outlay may not be great, but you don't have to replenish these all at the same time and they last a while. Good luck
that means your skin is too dry. when your skin is overly dry it will produce more oil too even it out but it often produces to much oil. so throughout the day your skin will get very oily but right after you wash it its dry. just try using a light moisturizer that wont clog pores. i recommend the proactive green tea moisturizer or aveeno.

hope that helps
I have the same problem. I always have. I am 30 and have gone through countless products in my life. The best one I have found is Dermalogica for oily skin. It is a bit spendy, but its your skin! You can get a sample kit for about $15 on ebay if you want to try it before commiting to it....
It's called combination skin. You can buy cleansers and moisturisers specifically for your skin type. They wouldn't ';balance each other out'; because your face is oily in some parts and dry in others.
yeah..my face is like that to

i suggest differen, you can get it from the pharmacy or at your dermitologist
